About Roxana Muñoz
Hello! I am an actor, writer, theatre-maker and choreographer from the United States - Alabama to be exact! I am currently living in London and finishing up my Master of the Fine Arts degree at Rose Bruford College in Sidcup, England. This site is dedicated to my Independent Research Project and the documentation of the process that ended up being a new play called A Chronic Autopsy.
I have dedicated my research and thesis to exploring chronic illness in relation to theatre and how to tell stories of those living with invisible chronic illness, disability, and pain. I especially want to explore how to further spread awareness of how chronic illness can be talked about safely without fear of taboo, preconceived judgement, and discrimination. How can I share what the rough patches of living in a chronically ill body - the funny bits, the ugly ones, and the beautiful ones too. How do we share the way those of us with chronic and invisible illness navigate through an ableist society and world we live in? How do we make a safe space to share and raise our voices?

History
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when I was thirteen. At that time, not many people, especially young people, had Crohn’s Disease. No one talked about it. I was so embarrassed to explain the symptoms and having to always ask where the nearest toilet is at all times. I spent 80% of my 20’s in and out of hospital to find the correct treatment for me. It felt like I was watching my life go by and the world moving on without me. I felt unseen and unheard by doctors and misjudged due to all of the medications I have to take. I suffer from PTSD, depression, and body image issues due to this disease (thank you steroids ).
I thought I had no future. It has impacted my life and shaped me in almost every way. I am so lucky to say that I am where I am at today, in remission, mental health under control, and am able to keep pursuing my career goals and live life. Making A Chronic Autopsy has been a dream and honor of a lifetime and I am so excited to guide you along the process of this journey with me!
